India stops cotton export. 11. 05.2010

For the last month quotations of the most active contracts at the New  York future stock exchange have risen on 8 %. So sharp increase has  been connected with the published official information of the Chinese  authorities on prospective deficiency of a cotton this year, and also  about the temporary termination of registration of export cotton  contracts in India.

The decision of India on an export suspension can lead to short    shipment on a foreign market about 2,5 million bales (or about 500    thousand tons) a cotton. According to the Indian cotton association, as   a result will suffer not only foreign buyers, but also their counterparts -   the textile enterprises. The similar decision of the authorities will   inevitably worsen reputation of India as trading partner in the world   market.

China, the world's largest consumer, faces inevitable shortage of a   cotton because of the decision of India to stop export.

Consumption this year can outstrip available stocks in China on 3.5 million tons, and the offer will remain limited and next year. The Chinese cotton association informs on growth of manufacture of a yarn on 20 % in the first quarter of current year.
